Bob Bolder

Bolder commenced his football career in goal for Sheffield Wednesday, spending seven years at the club. He moved on to play for Liverpool for two seasons between 1983 and 1985, winning the league title with the club. In the year 1985, he moved on to play in goal for Sunderland. In the summer of 1986, Charlton Athletic signed the goal keeper and he was ever present in goal during Charlton’s relegation battles. He became a fans favourite and was seen as a safe and popular goal keeper.

John Humphrey

Humphrey began his career play for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the young age of 18 in the year 1979. He spent six years playing for the Midlands club before signing for Charlton Athletic in 1985. His finest season in football was arguably the 1989-90 campaign. He was installed as the club captain and he was the fans’ choice as player of the year in the 1989-90 season. He was widely regarded as one of Charlton’s finest ever full backs and his outstanding play earned the player a move to Crystal Palace at the start of the 1990-91 season.

Paul Mortimer

Mortimer made his full debut for Charlton Athletic in the year 1987, at the young age of 19 years old. He was a local lad who served his apprenticeship with Fulham; however he did not make their first team. He made his league debut for Charlton against Norwich in November 1987 and his consistency and great performances in his midfield position, earned the player a move to Sheffield United at the start of the 1990-91 season.

 

Garth Crooks

Crooks began his career playing for Stoke City in 1975, spending a total of five years at the club. His outstanding play up front earned him a move to Tottenham, spending five years with Spurs. He scored a goal in Tottenham’s thrilling 3-2 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in 1981. He went on to play for West Brom between 1985 and 1987 before moving to Charlton Athletic for £75000 at the start of the 1987-88 campaign. He is now a popular football presenter on television.
