Steve White
White commenced his football career playing for Bristol Rovers in 1977, spending two years at the club. He soon moved on to play for Luton Town in 1979, going on to spend three years at the club. His great performances earned him a move to Charlton Athletic in 1982 and he soon became a fans favourite at the club. He moved back to Bristol Rovers towards the end of 1983 and spent another three years at the club. In the year 1986, he signed for Swindon Town on a free transfer and he was in prolific form during his long spell at the club. He scored 18 league goals during the 1989-90 season one of the top goal scorers in the top flight.
Alan Curbishley
Curbishley spent his career while playing football in a defensive midfield role. He started his playing career off at West Ham United in 1973, joining the club as an apprentice. He came through the ranks in 1975 and soon became a permanent fixture in the Hammers starting line up. After six years at the London club, he moved on to play for Birmingham City in 1979, spending four years at the club before moving on to play for local rivals, Aston Villa, for a single season. He moved on to Charlton Athletic in 1984, in what proved to be his first of two spells playing for the club. After a magnificent period at the club he moved on to play for Brighton and Hove Albion in 1987 and was soon installed as the club captain. In 1990, he moved back to play for Charlton and a year later, he was installed as the new manager at the club, in partnership in charge with Steve Gritt. He went on to manage the club for over 15 years, one of the most successful managers in English football history.
Steve Gritt
Steve Gritt started his playing career off playing for Charlton Athletic. His great play at the club earned the player a move to Bournemouth FC and then Walsall. He later on had a second spell playing for the Addicks and was soon installed as a player coach. In the summer of 1991 he took over in charge at the club with Alan Curbishley. After four successful years managing the Addicks he was installed manager of Brighton and Hove Albion.
Alan Simonsen
Simonsen was a Danish football international who was regarded as one of the greatest ever football players to have come from Denmark. It was during his time playing for Barcelona where the player really established him self and in the year 1977 he earned the accolade of ‘European Football player of the year.’ In 1982, Simonsen moved on to Charlton Athletic for £324,000, despite a short stay at the club, he went on to score 9 goals in only 17 appearances. |
