Eddie Firmani
Firmani is arguably the greatest ever Italian player to have played for Charlton. He started his career off in the early 1950’s playing for Charlton Athletic and his prolific form in front of goal earned the centre forward a move to Sampdoria of Italy for a then British record fee of £35,000. After a spell with Sampdoria he soon moved on to play for Italian giants, Inter Milan and then Genoa before moving back to England to play for Southend United. He finished his playing career off with Charlton Athletic and during his time at the club he was deadly in front of goal, in 177 appearances, he scored a prolific 89 goals, averaging at one goal every other match. He had a spell managing Charlton before coaching in America.
Ray Crawford
Crawford started his career off at Portsmouth before making a move to Ipswich Town in 1958. He was prolific in front of goal during his time at the club and helped Ipswich win back to back titles, the second division in 1960 and winning the top flight league title in 1961. In 1963 he moved to Wolves and was in prolific form, scoring 39 goals in 57 appearances for the club. After enjoying a second spell playing for Ipswich he moved on to play for Charlton in 1968, making a real impression at the club. He later on played for Kettering Town and then Colchester United.
Stuart Leary
Leary was a South African born striker who had a great eye for scoring great goals. He spent most of his football playing career at Charlton Athletic, scoring a staggering 153 league goals in 376 appearances. To this day he is the Addicks leading ever league goal scorer. He is also well known for being a great cricketer, starring for the Kent County Cricket club. |
