Billy Kiernan

Jimmy Seed purchased Kiernan in the year 1949 and he soon made a huge impact at the club. He was a really fast left winger, who really damaged the opposing sides. He is one of Charlton’s most played ever players, recording over a staggering 400 appearances for the club during his 12 year stay for the Addicks. He scored an outstanding 93 goals and earned a place in the England ‘B’ team in 1955.

 

Ted Croker

Croker was an RAF pilot and a football player for Charlton Athletic during his early days. He spent his entire football career playing for the Addicks and was a popular player with the Charlton supporters. After an enjoyable career at the Valley, he was installed as the secretary for the Football association. He is well known for suggesting the idea of the F.A Charity Shield which has now become a popular competition in the sport.

Cliff Holton

Holton started off his career playing with Oxford United before moving to Arsenal in October 1947. By the start of the 1950’s he became a regular fixture in the Arsenal starting line up and in his time at the club he scored at a prolific rate of 53 goals in only 81 matches. He later on had spells playing for Stoke City, Watford and Northampton before moving on to play for Charlton Atheltic, a club which he soon adapted in, and became an instant fans favourite. After a few seasons with Charlton he finished his career off at Leyton Orient.
