Johnny Summers

Summers is undoubtedly one of Charlton’s greatest ever players. He was one of the liveliest characters in the game during the 1950’s and during his long spell playing for Charlton, he scored 104 goals for the club in his forward position. He is well known for scoring five goals in a match in December 1957, in a 7-6 victory over Huddersfield.

Sam Bartram

Bartram started his playing career while also working as a miner; he played for Durham and Bolden Villa. While playing for the club, a scout from Charlton was watching the match and Sam was so outstanding, that the scout had to persuade Charlton to sign the player. Once moving to Charlton, he spent over 22 years playing in goal for the club. Sam also represented the England ‘B’ team and is considered to be ‘the greatest ever goalkeeper never to play in goal for England.’ Sam has broken many records for Charlton Athletic and his loyalty at the club earned him a staggering 623 appearances in goal, making him the most played player in the history of Charlton Athletic FC. Before retiring from playing, he was still playing at the age of 42 years.

Peter Croker

Croker was born in Kingston in the year 1921 and spent most of his playing career at the Valley with Charlton Athletic. He is widely regarded as one of the Addicks greatest ever full backs and was very much part of the starting line up in Charlton’s FA Cup victory in 1947 as they beat Burnley 1-0 in the final. He was also part of the side that lost the FA Cup final the previous year against Derby County. After playing for Charlton he moved on to play for Watford FC.
